A $3,000 bite was just taken out of my wallet

Unfortunately it was NOT on this beautiful Roadmaster I saw in the parking lot of the appliance store.

Kinja'd!!!

Nope, I’m redoing our kitchen this summer. Yesterday my father-in-law watched the kiddos for a few hours, so we could go appliance shopping in peace. We needed everything except the fridge. Miracle of all miracles, my wife came is $85 UNDER the budget which she scoffed at when I first suggested it to her.

Sorry for the clickbait :P

Whoo hoo! Exciting!

For some reason I kinda like appliance shopping. Luckily I don’t do it much - too much $$$!

That was just the appliances. I’ve also purchased $500 worth of drawer slides, hinges, and whatnot. And today I cut up $700 worth of cherry plywood to build the cabinet boxes.

The hinges are a really killer. Did you get soft-close ones?

I don’t care for it myself, but it’s very much needed. Our kitchen is definitely at the end of its usable life. The sink leaks, the dishwasher rack is rusting out, the stove is taking longer and longer to cook. Our cabinets are falling apart, the mismatched counters are collapsing, the stick on tile is not only hideous, but falling apart and was installed apparently by a blind man.

Yep. Soft close full extension drawer slides too.

Must be nice! No, I’m kidding. I’m about to own a kitchen that’s about as outdated as my current kitchen so it’ll be coming up for me soon enough...

We’ve lived with a a horrible, out of date, falling apart kitchen for eight years now. There’s a ton of work to do still, and a whole bunch more money to spend (wife has mandated granite), but it’s going to be great to have a nice kitchen for the first time ever.

Very much so! I tried to talk my wife into waiting a year, so I could paint the house this summer (which is also desperately overdue), but that was a hard no.

Appliances are usually the most expensive part of a kitchen, so you’re off to a pretty reasonable start.

I have dreams of appliance shopping. The stove, washer, and cabinets i live with are all older than i am and im fairly certain the feed line to the washer and fridge are so clogged.

It may not be as glamorous as a nearly antique buick, but i miss cooking on all the newer appliances at my moms house

Kinja'd!!! Eric @ opposite-lock.com > shop-teacher
06/13/2018 at 12:01

Kinja'd!!!0

That all depends on the size of your kitchen.

I’d look into other options, too. Granite sucks if you’re not super diligent about maintaining the stuff. There are far better options that require little-to-no maintenance at a similar price (if not lower).

Kinja'd!!! shop-teacher > Eric @ opposite-lock.com
06/13/2018 at 16:37

Kinja'd!!!0

It’s not too big, but granite will still likely be the best part of a couple grand. I know about the options, but wife wants granite, wife gets granite. She’s good at taking care of things, so I’m not worried.

Clickbait: you might consider using the Crop feature on that and give us more Roadsmasher and less parking lot. Seriously, though:

Kinja'd!!!

Here is an image of the 1977 2WD Jimmy that my friend’s mom drove when I was in high school. This is the vehicle that I want in my mind as I get Rusty roadworthy. That is the wheel that I want. Maybe even whitewalls... Can you still get whitewalls?

Believe me: how much you care about what I think about dishwashers _in no way_ informs my decision whether or not to tell you what I think about dishwashers. As a direct result, I make no estimates, have made no estimates, will make no estimates.

Fine, C5 Jimmy. In GM truck parlance, C is 2wd and K is 4wd.

I was mighty tempted by a '79 C5 Jimmy a few years ago when I had money burning a hole in my pocket. Body mount rust scared me off.

Those are cool, but I don't think I'd want to go back down to 14" rims. I'm fairly certain those rims are 14 inchers.
